and back to penrose point
Date: August 18, 2021
Time Start: 2:30 p.m.
Time Finish: 5:30 p.m.
Cruise From: Swantown Marina, Olympia
Cruise To: Penrose Point State Park
Engine Hours Start: 1297
Engine Hours Finish: 1300
Weather/sea conditions: Nice summer day, breeze, upper 70's
The captain is taking the first mate on another cruise and once again she won't be of much help as her hand issues continue. It's sit back and enjoy time for me!
This time we tie onto one of the mooring buoys on the north side of Penrose Point. It is a nice setting. With a light wind chop, water slaps against the hull. And seals are super active today, jumping out of the water and doing lots of splashing. What is going on with them??? Obviously they are having a good time! Water sports are big today, too. A water skier passes near us doing flips in the air.

it's definitely still summer, hooray!
The captain goes all out for dinner - hot dogs, baked beans, watermelon! And it looks like the weather is changing some. Clouds start to build in the evening. Through the trees and then rising above them comes a nearly full moon, shining through the clouds.

Penrose Point layover day
Weather: cooler, light clouds with blue skies, calm morning
Morning on the water is so often calm, such a beautiful start to our day.

The day gets filled with outings in both the dinghy and kayak.
It IS summer, so why not a swim? The captain gets geared up to dive under the hull and check out the zincs. I try swimming, but am disappointed that the hand doesn't want to cooperate. Getting back up the swim step ladder is a challenge! At least I can say I got wet!
Another night of moonlight!

Weather: Calm, clouds, cooler
Put on the music! The aisle in the galley is big enough for a little dance! Breakfast is on its way!

It's cheery and lively in the cabin. Outside the day is more muted and calm. People are out exploring the sand spit that has been exposed by the low tide.
Let's join them! Through the lens of shallow water we get some glimpses of the marine life here.
Wonder what this is? It is a mass of squid eggs!
The findings ashore are pretty great today, too.
We can't resist seeing more from the dinghy.
The dinghy crew, the captain and the first mate:

Another fun cruise comes to an end. We have been visiting fairly local destinations this summer while I heal, and also to avoid places with more people. We are still being cautious as the COVID pandemic continues. A new variant, Omicron, has been raging lately. As much as we enjoy our more isolated adventures, we look forward to the day when we can throw out our masks and socializing will once again be safe for all!
